My guess would be a bad connection or some cracked insulation somewhere. The generator should lost well over 10,000 miles with little or no maintenance other than any required lubrication. has the truck been used stationary (engine running but not moving) for a long time? The 10K miles may be deceiving in that case. I would still check out the wiring and connections first.
