If ya'll have good memmorys I'm putting running gear from a 76 4 wd Blazer under a 54 2 ton GMC cab. Thank you for all the good advice rendered to date!

I'm looking at the steering column, the 54 has a column that appears to be integral to the steering box, where as the 76 coupled up with sliding shaft and a flex coupler.

I would like to use the 54 column and wheel, as I don't care for the looks of a later steering column in an older truck. The first thing that comes to mind is to use a saws-all and whack the 54 column off just above the steering box and buld an abomination to cobble the mess together.

I'm certain that this can be done in a much better manner that doesn't look like the work was performed by a gang of crack addled heathens, you folks seem to be reasonable people, what do you recommend?
