1974 Chevrolet Truck (((DEATH SHAKE))) intermitten

Posted by Bob G on September 21, 2003 at 20:51:12 from (68.166.21.78):

I have a 1974 Cheverolet Pickup with less than 100k
miles that was used mostly on a farm. I was driving one
day after I bought it to see what I would need to do to
make it roadworthy and everything seemed fine except
every now and then without warning it will VIOLENTLY
shake in the front end about 30-40mph without warning
and then disappear after picking up everything that just
fell off the seat! I have checked the tires, the suspension
and brakes. Can anyone tell me what the most likely
reason is for this "intermittent" death SHAKE?!! (other
less likely scenarios would be most welcome as well! :)
It scares me something awful but doesn't happen
enough for me to figure out what's wrong.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Bob
