Surely someone out there that likes trucks/tractors works for DOT or DMV and has some insite into this mess we wanna call a hobby and they wanna call for hire. It is really frustrating to know we are right in thinking we are not for hire and personal use only but keep running into DOT officers that think we are commercial. I don't mind the idea of running over the scales and being legal for what i am driving as long as they don't try to write me up for it! Why should I have to put an apportioned tag, fuel stickers, and a log book, not to mention $3000 worth of insurance on a truck I drive to work, the grocery store, and to the movies? Doesn't even make common sense. Even if I use a semi to haul my toys it is still toys and still for fun, not for hire.

Anyone out there have a answer for this? I know we don't have to meet commercial requirements, but how can we prove it to them. Do we need to haul around the statutes for each state?

John
