Unless the little aluminum tag on the intake or the decal on the valve cover is intact,it's tough to ID.
Externally the 429 and early 460 ( up to aprox 76) are identical except for the pilot bushing/converter pilot hole in the crank. The older 429 crank pilot hole was large for the 390 size bushing,while the 460 had the small hole for a 302 size bushing. I ran into this while doing a 429/460 swap where you needed the correct torque converter for each engine because of the pilot hole difference.
