an older ford 262 would be ok, but kinda hard to find. but the later 300 six are plentiful and have lots of power, you would have to make mounts and if the trans is the round 8 bolt one you may want to change it out for a later one. you have lots of room to work with so there is no problem putting a different engine in the ole 48.
