The 63 Chevroletpickups had the 230 6cylinder and the 283 V8. You can swap virtually anything in these old Chevrolets. If you decide to install an automatic in place of a straight shift, you will need to get the intermediate length TH350 which is 4 inches longer than your old standard shift. You then use theengine stands out of a 71 or so v8 p/u. You move the stands 4 inches forward on the frame to the holes that are already there. This will do two things. It will move the engine forward so you won't have to run a shrowd on the fan and you willgain enough room at the rear so you won't have to massage the firewall to clear an HEI distributor. You will have to change the front yoke on the driveshaft because of the difference in splines. You willalso need a crossmember under the transmission. If you have a straight shift and you haven't located a column or other shifter, you can clamp the 2nd and 3rd lever to the shifter with a hose clamp and use your column shift for the shifter temporarily. Good luck
