Didn't the 1963 offer the new option of a 292 cid 6 cylinder?

Seems I remember kids of that era pitting a 283 V-8 against the 292 6 cylinder in a drag race.
The thoughts were that the 292 would have more torque and get a jump on the line, but the V-8 would win the race overall.
