Brake drum -get off?

Hi, I usually hang out on the other discussion groups on Yesterdays Tractors and it's great.
Anyhow my ears areringing from pounding on the rear brake drum of my Toyota parts truck.It won't budge.I should keep pounding?Will the brum break if I use Sledgehammer? The rear brakes on my daily driver are grinding---I can't stand to listen - - gotta keep the radio turned up. Thanks.
