One alternative would be to get a Gear Vendors, or similar overdrive unit for the back of your 4 speed. What size tires do you have, and what is the rear end ratio? If tranny was changed to overdrive, AND the rear end gears were changed to a lower numerical ratio for better highway speed, it would be interesting to know what gears were actually put in. Some 5-speed medium duty truck transmissions are set up with 5TH gear as overdrive, and could possibly be adapted to a pickup, but finding one that would match up would probably be difficult, if not impossible. Also, pickups from the 80's and 90's used 5-speed trannys with 5TH being overdrive.
