ignition on 1973 F-250 w/ 390Posted by Mopower on April 14, 2004 at 11:58:33 from (12.4.27.248):
My F250 quit. I see it stays running fine as long as I hold the key all the way over (starter engaged). As soon as I let up, the motor dies without so much as a sputter. I have no spark when I let up on the key? Someone said run a wire from the + battery terminal to the coil and hot wire it. If it runs fine, then it could be a resistor or wire is bad. I guess it is full 12V when starting, but then when it starts, it goes through a resistor? Any ignition guys out there clue me in? Warm weather is here, I need the old girl.
